The first time I saw a tattoo on someone, the beauty and how totally cool it looked overwhelmed me. Curiosity got the better of me and I started asking as many questions as possible, thank goodness my cousin from America was kind enough to offer as much info as possible and I was sold. I vowed to myself that when I “grow up” I’ll get to have one if not two. Well…I had plenty of time to think of what would appeal to me. Besides the beauty, an aspect of self-expression was paramount.
When taking evening or neighborhood walks, I cannot help but notice the number of people who stare at me and probably wonder about how crazy this mama is but this never surprises me because I have got a number of tattoos that are visible which draw that attention. I love my tattoos and yes I understand the strong opinions that are formed around such things but tell me one thing that does not attract any opinion in this life, I guess there is none.
I knew exactly what I was getting into and I’m cool with them being permanent marks. I’ve come across comments like they won’t look very nice when I’m old, and my thinking is, you really think you will be more beautiful when you grow old as well? All things considered I don’t mind having my tattoos age with me. They inspire me and I get to wear meaningful and incredible pieces of artwork for the rest of my life. And I love that.
Let me walk you through my tattoos
These birds have a reputation that is honorable. They represent stability, providence and prosperity. They know how to take flight at alternating intervals and never allows others to seize their fate. That inspires me to spread my wings and in between provide for those who depend on me.
The falcon tattoo
This bird of prey is a noble creature. It symbolizes focus, superiority, strength, determination and aspiration. It defines victory and the ability to rise above all situations.
There is a bible verse that sits next to the falcon
Isaiah 40:31 which reads “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not grow weary; and they shall walk and not faint.
An encouragement to keep going and never give up.
This particular one symbolizes peace. The kind of peace that quiets and soothes the worries and the trouble that we encounter enabling us to find renewal in the silence of the mind. It paves way for new beginnings. I got it close to my heart as a reminder to remain calm and hopeful even when the situation doesn’t call for it.
This is a simple writing that serves as an everyday reminder that there is power in believing in oneself and in your dreams and whatever you want to achieve. This keeps me in grounded despite the doubts and the fears that sometimes creep in.
From when I was a girl I used to read about those fairy tales and to be honest I could not get enough of the Cinderella story. The characters in these story are magical creatures who represent beauty, grace and femininity.
They give meaning to fulfillment of wishes and desires.
These beautiful creatures are a powerful and deep representation of life. They move with a lot of grace, energy and are really playful, you can’t help but be wowed when you spot one. You are tempted to move around with them, I guess in a way they speak to our souls. The butterfly is a symbol of change, endurance, hope and life and embracing all that.
Last but not least there’s the feather tattoo which inspires great dreams.
